Climate Adaptation and Nature-Based Water Solutions

STREAM Sh.p.k. supports climate-adaptation planning through hydrological analysis, catchment assessment and evaluation of nature-based water-management options. The service helps municipalities, developers and programme teams compare interventions against a defined flood, drought or erosion problem.

Which adaptation options can be assessed?

Water retention, floodplain or wetland restoration, catchment restoration, erosion-management measures and blue-green drainage concepts. Nature-based and engineered options can be considered together where they address the same decision. Feasibility depends on terrain, soils, land use, receiving waters, maintenance and available space.

How are climate scenarios used?

Identify the climate variables, reference periods, scenarios and hydrological response relevant to the site. Compare the current baseline with agreed future assumptions and test the sensitivity of water availability, flood behaviour or drainage performance. Climate projections and scenario results are labelled as such; they are not precise forecasts for a particular future day.

What evidence is needed?

Site or catchment boundaries; terrain and drainage information; observed climate and water records; available projections; existing flood or drought evidence; land ownership and land use; and the purpose and lifetime of the proposed intervention. Ecological, geotechnical and other specialist evidence is identified at scoping.

What can the client receive?

A climate-risk screening, source register, scenario or sensitivity assessment, mapped opportunities and constraints, and an option comparison with further-study and monitoring needs. Benefits, costs, land requirements and maintenance responsibilities are evaluated where supported by the agreed data. No fixed flood-reduction percentage, carbon credit or biodiversity gain is promised without suitable assessment.

How does this connect to project development?

Results can inform a feasibility study, master plan, investment concept or adaptation programme. Detailed design, ecological restoration plans, permissions and construction supervision are separate deliverables. See flood and drainage studies and municipal flood-and-drought assessment.
