Dam Safety, Reservoir Studies and Flood Early Warning in Albania
STREAM Sh.p.k. provides hydrological and hydraulic studies for dam owners, reservoir operators, engineering teams and public authorities in Albania. Work can support dam-safety assessment, flood management, reservoir operation and the technical design of early-warning workflows.
Which dam and reservoir questions can STREAM assess?
Catchment runoff and reservoir inflows; design-flood assumptions; flood routing; spillway hydraulics; downstream flood scenarios; storage and sedimentation evidence; monitoring needs; and operational constraints. Dam-break modelling can be scoped where appropriate geometry, failure assumptions and downstream information are available. Scenarios and limitations are documented rather than treated as predictions of a particular failure.
How can early-warning studies support decisions?
STREAM can help connect observations, precipitation forecasts, catchment response and water-level or discharge thresholds. The scope identifies data sources, update frequency, threshold rationale, responsible users and the decision each alert supports. Forecasts and thresholds require evaluation against available events and operational conditions.
A technical study is one component of an operational warning system. Authority to issue warnings, round-the-clock operation, communications, maintenance and emergency procedures must be assigned to the relevant organisations. These responsibilities are agreed separately from modelling work.
What information is needed?
- Dam, reservoir, spillway and outlet drawings with survey references.
- Elevation-storage relationships, bathymetry, inflow and water-level records.
- Operating rules, release records, monitoring information and earlier studies.
- Downstream terrain, channels, structures and relevant exposure information.
What can the client receive?
A documented data review, agreed hydrological or hydraulic models, scenario results, maps, a monitoring or threshold concept and a technical report identifying uncertainty and further investigations. Structural, geotechnical, seismic, electromechanical and statutory safety certification responsibilities are defined with appropriately qualified specialists for the assignment.
