Flood Risk Management Plans for Albanian Rivers (2021–2024)
Location: Tirana, Albania
Role: Lead Flood Management Expert

Project Description:
STREAM developed Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs) for five major rivers in Albania: Erzen, Ishem, Shkumbin, Seman, and Vjosa, covering over 300 kilometers of river systems. This project involved: Comprehensive hydrological and hydraulic analyses to identify flood-prone areas. Design and implementation of structural and non-structural measures to reduce flood risks, including embankment improvements and erosion control measures.

Integration of climate change projections to ensure the sustainability and adaptability of the plans.
This initiative significantly improved flood response efficiency and reduced property damage risks for adjacent communities.

Drin-Buna Basin Flood Modelling (2020–2021)
Location: Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro
Role: Hydrological Expert
Description:
STREAM developed advanced hydrological models using HEC-RAS 2D to assess flood risks in the Drin-Buna river basin. By analyzing different management regimes of hydropower plants, the team:

Demonstrated how optimized reservoir operations could mitigate downstream flood impacts.

Evaluated climate change scenarios to propose new operational rules for hydropower plants during floods.
This project highlighted STREAM’s ability to balance energy production with flood risk management.
